Smash the plate!

Brooches made with broken crockery and copper/silver foil around the outside. Not sure about the green one but I love to blue one and it was fun smashing up the plates. Made at my first Arty Party where everyone said to say hi to lovely Steph! x

  1. You have to tell us what to do! I love the blue one! I have a ring like that (which my friend bought me from NZ actually..!) and I always wondered how it was made. I think my ring is soldered around the edge..? What foil did you use? What glue? Everything! That is very exciting, good work Rose x x

  2. I am so glad you got to an Arty Party and that you enjoyed yourself. Aren't they lovely there, and good cakes too! Say hi back if you go again. I love the brooches. You will have to tell us how in more detail....

  3. Okay. So, first we smashed up the plates. There were all sorts of complex glass files and cutting tools for getting good shapes but alot of it comes down to luck I think. It was better to zone in on a general area than concerntrate on one nice detail because you can't be that exact.

We filed the edges to get rid of sharp corners and then around the edge we stuck copper self adhesive tape like this:

You had to be careful to get the edges really even - we used 2 lengths so both the back and front look the same.

Then glue gunned the brooch pin. and polyurethaned the whole thing.

So it was kind of materials heavy I guess! You wouldn't have to polyurethane and the glue gun isn' that much better than craft glue...

    Hope that helps! xx
